FAQs

Here you'll find the answers to frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions not listed here, please get in touch.

What is therapy?

Therapy, also called counselling, is a process during which you sit with a trained mental health professional to explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, patterns and relationships in order to improve your mental wellbeing.

How do I know if I need therapy?

There is no one sign which tells you that you need therapy. However, if you have been feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck, or experiencing low moods, grief or trauma, or struggling with relationships in your life, you might discover that you would benefit from the space and reflection that therapy provides.

How do I find the right therapist for me?

Finding the right therapist is an important first step. Introductory phone calls are a good time to find out more about your therapist, to understand the ways that they work and check that it fits with your needs. This is also a good time to ask any questions you might have. However, if you find that once you begin counselling the therapist does not feel right for you, you can stop your sessions and look for someone new.

I aim to ensure all clients feel comfortable, safe, supported, understood and respected. This is a crucial part of our therapeutic relationship.

How many sessions will I need?

I do not work with a set number of counselling sessions, but recommend a minimum of three months. Many clients, however, will stay in therapy for much longer. Along with the therapist you will likely find a time to end that feels right for you and your therapeutic journey.

Is everything we talk about confidential?

Everything we speak about in session is completely confidential. The only place it gets discussed is with a trained supervisor, which is also a confidential relationship. The purpose of supervision is to ensure client safety and quality of care, while also ensuring the efficacy of my practice and work.

Where are you based?

I am conveniently located in the centre of Bath, just off Queen's Square. The Lansdown Park and Ride bus stop is two minutes walk from the building, and close by to Charlotte Street Car Park. Bath is accessible via car, bus and rail, making it convenient for clients from the surrounding villages and towns, including Corsham, Keynsham, Wick, Trowbridge, Batheaston and Bathampton.
